  • James Coughlan

    FOUNDER

    Based in Cairns, Queensland and with close to 25 years experience in cruise, James has held several positions both on land and at sea.

    Having spent 10 years at sea for a luxury cruise line travelling to over 100 countries provided James with a clear picture of what the cruise traveler and cruise lines are looking for in their shoreside experiences.

    Stepping both feet off the gangway in 2013 James lead the Shore Excursion team working at a world class inbound tour operator and has been pivotal in the growth and delivery of the Australian shoreside experiences in all of the ports in the country. Seeing the opportunity to improve the service offering to the cruise lines and their guests, James decided it was time to launch Shorex Australia.

    James has sat on a number of boards and committees (currently the Australian Cruise Assocation and the Skal Club of Cairns) as well as being an active judge for the Queensland tourism awards thus providing the launching pad to support all aspects and stakeholders to benefit from the cruise industry shoreside experiences in Australia.

  • Karin Ohman

    GENERAL MANAGER

    With over 15 years’ experience in Inbound Tourism, primarily in the cruise industry, Karin is an experienced Tourism Professional with a deep understanding of product development, contracting and operations.

    Karin kicked off her career in Stockholm, Sweden, working for Northern Europe’s leading travel producer and tour operator. Karin relocated to Australia in 2016 where she built strong knowledge of the country, its tourism experiences, and challenges as Senior Account Manager covering high-end cruise clients.

    In recent years, Karin led the Australia & New Zealand Product Team at one of the world’s largest travel companies, focusing on building strong relationships with local stakeholders, creating incredible experiences around the region, and leading the charge in the build-up of the company’s Online Travel Agency.

    With a passion and commitment to improve the service offerings to clients in Australia, Karin has partnered with James to launch Shorex Australia and deliver excellence to all involved.

  • Amelia Murray

    OPERATION COORDINATOR

    (Shayne is NOT my dad!)

    Hailing from Norfolk Island, Amelia has experienced almost all areas of the tourism industry in her short but extensive career; with experience in touring, hospitality, travel and cruise/airline passenger logistics.

    Amelia started out in hospitality as floor manager for fine dining restaurants in both Coolangatta and Norfolk Island. Working also as a travel agent, she tailored dream experiences to all parts of the world for many people.

    Most recently, Amelia was the Airport Operations Manager for Airlines, and Terminal Manager for Cruise ship calls on Norfolk Island. These roles covered a combination of the day-to-day contract management along with managing the volitivity of Daily Operations for passengers both by air and sea.

    Amelia’s career has helped her build the ability to be comfortable managing passengers on the day of operations to create the most seamless passenger experience.

  • Shayne Murray

    Shayne is a self-employed business proprietor who for many years has had a focused interest in the transport and tourism industry in Western Australia.

    Shayne has lived in Broome for the past 12 years and started up the business Broome Transit, a Coach and Bus Company dedicated to transporting crew and passengers between the airport, port and hotels for the cruise and Oil and Gas Industry as well as providing local tour product and programs for the cruise industry.

    Other business interest includes Cellfied International, which is a computer web- based program that treats Dyslexia and reading disabilities which is delivered in major countries around the world.
